Sleepy snack
20 minutes, 1 serving
Cherries are high in melatonin which is crucial for the regulation of sleep. Natural yoghurt and wheatgerm is a good source of tryptophan (which is important for our bodies to produce melatonin). Furthermore, nuts and seeds are high in magnesium which is known as ’nature's tranquiliser.’ Alternatively, if you fancy a more simple sleepy snack, walnuts are another great source of melatonin.
Ingredients
1 cup frozen cherries
3 tbsp full fat natural yoghurt (Yeo valley is nice)
1 tbsp Wheatgerm
1 tbsp pumpkin seeds
1 tbsp sunflower seeds
1 tsp raw honey
Directions
Stew the frozen cherries in a pan and leave them to cool.
When cool, add the natural yoghurt on top.
Toast the seeds in a pan on the hob for a few minutes but shake the pan regularly so they don’t burn.
Sprinkle the wheatgerm and toasted seeds on top of the yoghurt.
Add a little unfiltered raw honey if you wish.
Notes
I usually toast at least twice the amount of seeds in one go and after they’ve cooled, keep them in an airtight jar in the cupboard. They are good to sprinkle of yoghurt, breakfasts and even salads.
